Colby's Journey: A LIFE IN THE ARTS AND EDUCATION

For over 25 years, Colby has straddled the worlds of live performance and arts education, each feeding off of the other and enriching countless lives in the process -- and culminating in this private practice.

After graduating from Northwestern University with a degree in Theater, Colby threw himself into the vibrant Chicago arts scene working as a classroom teacher, venue manager, private instructor, director, composer, musician, vocalist and bandleader in his quest to master the life of a generalist in the arts.

Personal highlights include singing backup vocals for Faith Hill and Seal on episodes of the PBS show Soundstage, and having an original song featured in the movie "The Guardian" starring Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher.

In addition, Colby served as the first Managing Director of the Vittum Theater in the West Town neighborhood of Chicago, spent 13 years on the artistic staff of the award-winning Albany Park Theater Project, created and managed his own live music company (Great Life Music), and created a recurring musical segment for the Chicago Public Radio show Eight Forty-Eight called Under Cover and featuring local Chicago musicians.

Colby, who travels the country often for his performance work, now resides in Houston where he raises his two children and which serves as the home base for his online and in-person vocal instruction.
